Molecular plant development and Transgenic plant
The regulation of flower development is a complex process and is a very competitive field of research in the international arena. In our laboratory, we are interested in the study of the mechanisms controlling flower transition, flower organ formation, flower senescence and male sterility. Through the studies in orchids, lily, Eustoma and model system Arabidopsis thaliana, many important genes related to those topics have been characterized and functional analyzed. All the genes we studied have been published in high ranking journal such as Nature Plants, Nature Communications, Plant Journal, Plant Physiology, Journal of Experiment Botany and Plant and Cell Physiology etc. and patents were obtained during the past few years. Our achievements have been widely recognized and awarded for several important awards and honors, such as Outstanding Research Award from the National Science Council (NSC) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Academic Award and National Chair Professorships from the Ministry of Education (MOE). The genes we investigated will be used directly in the practical application by transforming them into valuable ornamental plants and valuable crops in controlling their flowering time, flower shape, flower senescence and male sterility.
