Minimal requirements for PhD drgree

  1. Duration: 2-7 years
  2. Minimal credits: 30, including 18 credits  earned from taking courses and 12 credits from completing thesis
  3. Compulsory courses:
    Special topics in Biochemistry (3 credits)
    Special topics in Biotechnology (3 credits)
    Seminar 3 (2 credits, one for each semester of the first year)
    Seminar 4 (12 credits, one for each semester of the second year)
    Dissertation (12 credits)
  4. Grade of a course must be ≥70 to be considered earning the credits
  5. Students must pass the two compulsory special topic courses by the end of the 4th academic year and the qualification examine by the end of the 5th year

Requirements:

I. Required Courses and Credits:

  • Biotechnology Seminars (3 credits)

  • Biochemical Technology (3 credits)

  • Second-Year Topic Seminar (4 credits)

  • Dissertation Research (minimum 12 credits)

  • At least 18 credits in total must be completed

*If a student did not take a biochemistry course during their undergraduate studies, they must first complete at least 4 credits of undergraduate-level biochemistry before enrolling in the courses Special Topics in Biotechnology and Special Topics in Biochemistry.

*Ph.D. students must complete the courses Special Topics in Biotechnology and Special Topics in Biochemistry within four years of enrollment.

II. Qualification Examination for Ph.D. Candidacy:
1. Ph.D. candidates must participate in the department’s retreat event before graduation.

2. Students must complete all required courses and pass the qualification exam within five years of enrollment.

3.First Attempt: Submit proposal. If failed, student may apply for a second attempt.

4. Those unable to pass within five years due to special circumstances must file a formal application in advance.

5. If the second qualification assessment is not passed, the student will be dismissed from the Ph.D. program but may apply for graduation with a master’s degree.

*If, due to special circumstances, a student is unable to complete the Ph.D. qualification examination within five years, they must submit a request for a deferral in advance and obtain approval through a committee meeting.

III. Thesis Publication Requirements:

Graduation requires the publication of SCI-indexed papers meeting at least one of the following:

  1. One SCI paper as first author with an Impact Factor (IF) > 10.0.

  2. Two SCI papers as first author, one of which must have an IF > 5.0. Eligible to apply for graduation from the third academic year.

  3. SCI papers with a total IF > 5.0. Eligible to apply from the fourth academic year.

  4. Two SCI papers as first author, eligible to apply from the fifth academic year.

  5. Two SCI papers as first author, eligible to apply from the sixth academic year.

  6. Ph.D. students may apply for graduation by submitting their doctoral dissertation upon completion of the seventh year of study.

  7. Ph.D. students who meet the above qualifications must obtain the consent of their advisor before applying for graduation and must complete the process in accordance with university regulations.
